La mona– A sweet bread with a hardboiled egg. Traditionally on Easter Sunday or the following day, families go out to parks, beaches, or the campo to eat la mona together. Kids crack the egg on their companion’s foreheads, probably hoping for an accidentally undercooked egg.

In elementary schools, often the whole school will go on an excursion to a park or other open spaces to eat la mona together – but this year due to protests and educational cuts, all extracurricular activities have been cut, including la mona.

Luckily, I got to break (Easter) bread with both the family of one of my private lessons and with an American amiga.
